Solid-core and multi-strand polymer provides cost effective continuous lighting with a neon-like appearance

Fibre optic lighting is ideal for low maintenance lighting

The selection of the correct light driver is critical to the performance of the final installation. It must be matched to the fibre delivery system and lamp type and output must be chosen to meet the requirements of the lighting task

From practical lighting situations to creating subtle mood and ambience, special effects or eye catching displays, fibre optics have the versatility to meet most lighting tasks with a range of features and benefits that cannot be matched by traditional lighting products

What is it? Who should use it? What are the benefits?

What is Fibre Optic Lighting?

Fibre Optics are precision engineered, flexible cables, manufactured in a wide range of specifications in glass or polymer. They are capable of transmitting light over considerable distances with out heat, electricity or ultra violet. They deliver light either to a number of emission points or as a continuous line of light from a single lamp, housed in a conveniently positioned light driver. This makes fibre optic lighting safe, economical and versatile in a wide range of applications.

Who should use Fibre Optics?

Fibre optics should be considered by anyone who is working in:

  • Architectural lighting
  • Special effects lighting
  • Industrial maintenance
  • Interior design
  • Marine lighting
  • Industrial inspection
  • Retail design
  • Landscape and pool lighting
  • Scientific and technical fields

The applications of fibre optics are only limited by the imagination. New applications are constantly arising. Some add an extra dimension to conventional lighting. Others provide lighting solutions that conventional products cannot.

Ignite the imagination with Fibre Optics

Fibre optics are a lighting medium that is free of the constraints of traditional lighting products. They allow the architect and designer freedom to explore the interactions of light, space, form and function, to push the boundaries of visual stimulation beyond the limits and expectations imposed by the ordinary.

Today's world is so full of sensory stimulation that the extraordinary becomes common place and the subtle may easily be lost in the overpowering visual explosion that surrounds us. Our lives are changing at an ever increasing pace and our expectations are constantly raised by what we see. What was science fiction yesterday is today's science fact.

Fibre optic lighting provides the technology to put the mystery and magic back into our surroundings, either in breathtaking visual displays that no other products can convey, or subtle lighting effects that are striking in their simplicity. From the ultimate in environmentally friendly, functional working light, to special effects that truly ignite the imagination.

Fibre Optic Lighting - the benefits

The advantages of fibre optic lighting technology are well known and can be summed up as:

No heat:

Delicate materials can be illuminated with out damage. There is no other heat load added to the environment, reducing the demand placed on air conditioning systems. Personal work spaces are more comfortable and risk of injury in public places is eliminated.

No electricity:

They require no specialist installation and are safe to use in public areas and outdoors. They are totally safe to use in water and Intrinsically safe for use in hazardous areas.

No ultra violet (UV):

This makes fibre optic lighting ideal for work stations and for illumination of delicate objects where colour fading may be an issue.

Low maintenance:

Once installed, fibre optic cables require no maintenance. This allows the use of light in areas where traditional lighting cannot be considered. In high ceilings, behind glass panels, in ground fittings or under water, fibre optics open up new areas of lighting possibilities.

Economical Operation:

Fibre optics are capable of delivering light to multiple points of illumination from a single light driver, making them economical to run. Having only one light driver also means that there is only one lamp to replace, reducing maintenance costs.

Flexibility and Creativity:

The possibilities that are opened up by fibre optic lighting are limited only by the imagination.

Applications range from the conservation of artistic works and historical artefacts, to shop displays of jewellery, cosmetics and many other items that may be adversely affected by the limitations of conventional lighting.

Architectural and landscape lighting benefit from imaginative applications of fibre optics and there are significant advantages in marine and transport installations.

Our fibre optic systems have featured in television, stage and film productions and are increasingly used in prominent art works.

World wide, fibre optics are finding further extensive use in medical, scientific and industrial applications in safe, cold lighting and image transfer with endoscopy equipment.
